Between St. Remy, Arles and Aix in southern France lie the Alpilles, the small mountains visable in the painting. The white horses are a typical horse of that region.
This bucoloic scene reflects the peace of the area, one that the Artist and his wife call their second home.The tiny villages in this area are unknown to tourists but are the locations of many paintings the artist has created over the past twelve years.
